Club Information

Bassingbourn Rifle and Pistol Club (BRPC) uses ranges at Bassingbourn Barracks, Barton Road near Cambridge, Isle Target Sports Club (ITSC)(near Ely) and Bisley in Surrey.

BRPC is a Home Office Approved Club and is affiliated to the National Rifle Assocation (NRA) based at Bisley.

The aim of the Club is to "promote shooting as a safe and enjoyable sport".

The Club shoots at Barton Road or Bassingbourn Barracks (every month with other shoots at our Affiliated Club - The Isle Target Sports Club near Mepal (Ely) - which are mainly Guest days.

At Barton Road, meeting dates have shooting distances allocated to them so that we can sure of moving back further than 100 metres. We now have the facilities to shoot back to 1200 yards for Club members at Barton Road and these dates are advertised on the Club website and in the newsletters.

At Bassingbourn Barracks, the Club shoots on the 100 metre range with calibres up to .223 (5.56mm).

The Isle Target Sports Club (ITSC) has a privately owned range consisting of 8 lanes at 25 metres and 2 lanes at 50 metres. There is no calibre restriction, but the maximum muzzle velocity allowed is 3250 ft/sec and the maximum muzzle energy is 3020 ft/lbs. If BRPC members wish to shoot at this range outside of BRPC-organised shoots, there will be a small green fee of £2.00 for each visit. Please note that any shoots on Sunday mornings with ITSC members may have full-bore shooting restricted to 50 metres only due to the high numbers of small-bore shooters on the 25 metre firing points at these times. Outside of this and where there are BRPC organised shoots, there won’t be any restrictions and there won’t be any range fees except for non-members where there will be a small range fee of £2.00.

They also shoot shotgun and air rifle on an open range on the same site. Members of BRPC are welcome to visit The Isle Target Sports Club and pay the nominal sum of £2.00 per visit.

Members of The Isle Target Sports Club are also welcome to shoot at BRPC meetings at Barton Road and pay a green fee of £5 but please check with the BRPC Secretary first as some shoots are for BRPC members only.

Calibres that can be used at Barton Road range from .17 rimfire up to .577 (excluding .338) including black powder rifles where there is Black Powder qualified Range Control Officer present. The maximum muzzle velocity is 3275 ft/sec (1000 m/s), and the maximum muzzle energy is 4500 joules (3319 ft/lb).

The Individual minimum age into the Club is 18 as we use military ranges, however, we welcome over-14s as long as a parent/guardian is a Full member of the Club where they will be able to shoot at Isle Target Sports Club. The current Individual membership cost is £95 for the first year including £5 joining fee. It is £90 per year thereafter, reviewed and renewed at the Annual General Meeting in February. There is a range fee of £5.00 per shoot at Barton Road. Visitors to Club shoots are able to shoot for a maximum of 3 visits without having to become a member. After that, it is expected that they will know whether they wish to pursue the sport with the Club.

There is a probationary period of 3 months with a minimum of 3 attendances which must be completed before Full membership is approved, and the Probationary Course will have been completed either with BRPC or the National Rifle Association (NRA). If an individual holds an FAC, they would need to apply for a free variation to put target shooting as a condition for the rifle(s) to enter Club competitions.

We are a very friendly group, always looking for new members of all ages and experience, and always approachable for advice. We don't hold club rifles but all the members will offer you the opportunity to try theirs out so you can decide what calibres/rifles you want to purchase before you spend the money and find that you don't get on with it!!

The BRPC website (www.brpc.org.uk) is full of useful information including plenty of shooting links and is always up-to-date with regards to shooting dates.
